Vinyasa Yoga is a modern style of yoga, born out of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga tradition, based on the teachings of Sri Krishnamacharya. The movements between each asana should be considered just as important as the postures themselves. This moving, dynamic and flowing yoga practice is initiated to deepen concentration and awareness of the body. The transition from one asana (posture) to the next is always initiated with the breath. Vinyasa means 'connection of movement and breath'. With this type of Yoga we use a breath technique that we call Ujjayi Breathing.
My Vinyasa classes are build up with a theme that we work with during the practice. The theme we work with depends on the season we are in or anything that arises due to the planetary or moon cycle. My classes always start with a moment of ‘landing’, a meditation and breathwork (pranayama). After setting our intentions, we slowly start flowing into movement. Depending on the exact style of the Vinyasa class, we move through a creative sequence of asanas, whereafter we finish the class with a relaxing Savasana.
